B ibs could be worn by aboriginal men and women and the same applies to the Atayal. Because aborigine clothes had no tight collar and had buttons down the front, without buckles, with the chest of the wearer exposed, the bib was work to cover the chest. The Atayal bib was a water chestnut shaped small piece of cloth. They had the function of covering the body, retaining body heat and decoration. Some were patterned or decorated and these would only be worn by important people.
