英文說明:This is a stone weight from a balance. In the early days, iron was expensive. Moreover, iron weights were prone to rust. Using stone to make weights was cheaper and had the advantage of yielding a rustproof weight. Most such stone weights were made of granite, with a few made of sandstone. A small number were made out of other types of stone. Some of these weights were carved with designs and animal figures. This weight was used in conjunction with a medium-sized hook balance. This example is plain and the weight is complete.
