石渠寶笈三編(乾清宮),第二冊,頁586&*故宮書畫錄(卷五),第三冊,頁551-552&*故宮書畫圖錄,第十一冊,頁55-56&* 蔣廷錫(一六六九-一七三二),江蘇常熟人。字揚孫,號西谷,又號青桐居士。工書、善畫,間作水墨折枝窠石,以及蘭竹小品,極有韻致。又能一幅中工率間出,色墨並施,神韻生動。 水墨畫坡石流泉,水仙與脩竹。水仙以疏放的線條鉤出輪廓,僅花心、花托等處加染淡墨而已;竹則以筆沾墨直接描繪,未加鉤勒。通幅為寫意的手法,無論竹葉或坡石上的小草、苔點,均顯現出墨色各種深淺濃淡的變化。 &* Chiang T’ing-hsi (style name Yang-sun and sobriquets Hsi-ku and Ch’ing-t’ung chü-shih) was a native of Ch’ang-shu, Kiangsu. Excelling at painting and calligraphy, he occasionally did paintings of “broken-branch” flowers and rocks in monochrome ink, as well as small works of bamboo and orchids which were exceptionally elegant. He was able to combine delicacy and casualness in one composition, as the ink merged to produce a harmonious life-movement. In this monochrome ink painting, narcissi and bamboo are shown thriving beside a stream. Relaxed lines describe the narcissi, while the flowers are simply executed in light washes. The bamboo, however, are painted directly in ink without outline. The bamboo leaves, delicate grasses emerging from the rocks, and moss dots all express the full range of the so-called “colors of ink.”
