He excelled as a figure painter but was also skilled in bird-and-flower and architectural painting. In 1760, when Emperor Ch’ien-lung made his southern tour, Chin T’ing-piao presented an album of lohans painted in the plain, ink-outline mode. The emperor was pleased and established Chin as a painter in his court. Two rocks rise above chrysanthemums and day-lilies. Grass is loosely described on all sides and adds a sense of liveliness to the painting.
