He excelled in poetry, prose, and painting and liked to depict people from all walks of life. He later once made a trip to Mount T’ai-hua and, thereafter, primarily indulged in painting landscapes. A wooded range of mountains white with snow lies blanketed in mist with a pervading sense of the winter forest’s cold. Below lies a scattering of houses and buildings on the stream’s rocky shore, where a man sheltered beneath an umbrella stands at the ferry and shouts to the ferryman on the opposite shore. In the high mountains above rise storied pavilions. The delicate, yet forceful, brushwork and moist washes convey the chilled barrenness of the vast silvery-white world.
