Here, the colors are opulent and the brushwork fine. Tea objects are shown, such as a reddish clay I-hsing teapot to brew tea, which was how tea leaves were brewed from the middle Ming on. In the work are 3 figures; one fans the flames to boil water for brewing tea. A single handle pot is on the stove and to the side is a two-level reddish clay handled pot. The scholar in white is the T'ang poet Lu T'ung (ca. 795-835). By him are a three-legged reddish clay teapot, a white ceramic tea bowl, a red-lacquered tea bowl stand, and books-reflecting a typical scholarly arrangement. Tea and study were thus part of the life of reclusion among scholars.
