Various trees stand straight with a waterfall cascading down the mountainside. To the left is a path winding in and out of the clouds and mists, above which are magnificent peaks slanting towards the skies. This painting reveals the motifs often associated with Huang Gongwang's works, but the structure, mountain forms, and method of rendering trees are all closer to the style of the famous Ming artist Wen Zhengming (1470-1559). The inscription would have the painting done in 1354 at Mei Jian'an. In 1410 Mei's descendants asked Shen Du (1357-1434) to write an inscription. When Wen Zhengming saw the painting in 1510, he also composed an inscription for it. One of the characters that Wen used in signing his name, however, differs from the one most often seen. Thus, though the composition and use of brush and ink in this work are both exceptional, it perhaps more reflects the hand of an artist in the late Ming dynasty who was gifted at imitating the style of Wen Zhengming. (20110609)&*前景には湖面に浮かぶ小舟が描かれている。その後ろに隙間なく描かれた様々な形の岩石、その合間に背の高い雑木がまばらに生えている。山頂から滝が流れ落ち、左の曲がりくねった山道は運霧の中に消え、その上に聳える美しい山峰は天に斜めに突き出している。本作には、黄公望の作品によく見られるモチーフが見られるが、全体の結構、山石、樹木の描き方などを見ると、文徴明の画風により近い。題跋から至正14年（1354）に梅剣庵のために描かれた作品だとわかる。永楽8年（1410）に梅氏の家人が沈度（1357-1434）に題跋を依頼し、正徳5年（1510）に文徴明（1470-1559）がこの作品を見る機会を得、題を残した。文徴明の題款「壁」は「璧」と書かれており、一般的なものとは異なっている。筆墨、結構ともに見事な出来栄えだが、文徴明の画風の模倣を得意とした者による明代後期の作品だと思われる。(20110609)
