- 中文摘要:台灣雖然不產老虎，但是大部分台灣的廟宇中都有祭拜虎爺，這是很特別也很有趣的現象。然而虎爺雖然是台灣民間最普遍的神靈之一，卻在台灣民間神明研究的議題上一直被忽略，這是很可惜的，所以本論文才會選擇虎爺來做為研究的對象，希望能對台灣漢人的虎爺信仰有更多的了解。 本論文從虎文化的產生到虎爺信仰的源流、虎爺信仰在台灣的發展情況、虎爺信仰的現象甚至是虎爺的造型…等各方面著手，將台灣的虎爺信仰做分析與整理。此外，隨著不同的直屬神和不同的地域，虎爺是否也被賦予不同的神格與任務，虎爺的地位與職責是否也因此有所不同，甚至更進一步的了解到虎爺信仰在台灣民間信仰中的意義，以及動物崇拜在台灣神靈系統中的角色，這些都是本論文中可提供大家對虎爺信仰和造型有更深一層的認識。 經本論文之探討，虎爺屬於動物神的一種，其角色多為一般神明的隨從、腳力或是座騎，大部分供奉虎爺的地方都是在廟宇中主神的神龕底下，因此在民間信仰的神靈體系中，虎爺也是屬於地位較低的神明。雖然虎爺的地位不高，但虎爺和各神明間的關係密切，也增加了虎爺的神性，可見虎爺成為台灣漢人民間信仰中最具有多元能力的神靈。此外，台灣民間虎爺顯靈的傳說故事，加強了人們對虎爺的崇敬，也提升了虎爺在神靈體系中的地位，這也可看出台灣漢人的虎爺信仰所呈現出新的風貌。 台灣廟宇中的虎爺雖然多被供奉在地上，但是民間仍然出現虎爺被人們供奉在神桌上的情形，尤其在嘉義地區，當地流傳著不少關於虎爺的傳說與靈感事蹟，虎爺也常被供奉於神桌上，在當地人們的生活中，虎爺的地位並不低於其他的神明。除了嘉義地區以外，在彰化以及台北的石碇也都出現了以虎爺為主神的廟宇，突破了傳統觀念中虎爺只是動物配祀神的角色，於此又可強烈顯示出台灣的虎爺信仰呈現多元而興盛的發展面貌。
- 英文摘要:Though there are no tigers producing in Taiwan , most temples hold a memorial ceremony which worships tigers as Master Tiger . It’s a very special and interesting phenomenon. Nevertheless, the Master Tiger is one of the most general gods among the folks in Taiwan. It’s really very regrettable to have been neglected all the time in the topic of the folk gods of Ta iwan. That’s why I choose the Master Tiger for my topic of the thesis. Hopefully to have more knowledge of the faith of the Master Tiger of Taiwan and her people. The thesis begins wih the producing of the tiger culture to the source of the faith of the Master Tiger development , the development of the faith of the Master Tiger in Taiwan；the phenomenon of the faith of the Master Tiger, even the modeling of the Master Tiger. Then, making analysis and integration from every respect of the formulation of the Master Tiger. In addition, with different subordinate spirits and different regions no matter whether the Master Tiger is given different spirits and tasks, and whether the status and duty of the Master Tiger is to some extent different. Furthermore, understanding the significance of the faith of the Master Tiger in Taiwan folk faith, and the role of the animal worships in the systems of Taiwanese gods. All these can offer everybody to understand deeper to the faith of the Master Tiger and modeling in my thesis. After probing into the topic from the thesis, the Master Tiger belongs to a kind of the animal gods. Its role is a member of the retinues, footstools, or seats of the general gods. Most places to enshrine and worship the Master Tiger are all under the shrines for idols or ancestral tablets in the temple, so in the systems of the gods of the folk faith, the Master Tiger belongs to the gods of the lower status. Though the status of the Master Tiger is low, the close relations with other gods let the Master Tiger get higher deity nature. It’s obvious that the Master Tiger becomes with the most multi-power gods in the folk faith. In addition, the legend story that the Master Tiger in Taiwan made its presence or power felt have strengthened the people to respect the Master Tiger. It also has improved the Master Tiger in the systems of the status of gods. This can find out that the new feature demonstrated from the Master Tiger in the Hans of Taiwan. Though the Master Tiger in many Taiwan temples is enshrined and worshiped on the ground, folk people still enshrine and worship Master Tiger at the supernatural desk , especially in the area of Chiayi. Many legends and inspiration deeds about the Master Tiger spread in the locality. The Master Tiger is often enshrined and worshiped on the supernatural desk too. In the life of the local people, the status of the Master Tiger is not lower than other gods . Besides the area of Chiayi, in Changhua and Shiding, Taipe, there are some temples that the Master Tiger is treated as the main god. It breaks the traditional idea that the Master Tiger is nothing but the dead sacrifice role of god from the animal . From the point, it can demonstrate strongly the faith of the Master Tiger full of the issue of pluralism and the appearance of prosperity development.
