英文摘要:Shadow play has been a precious cultural asset of Kaohsiung County since its introduction to southern Taiwan from Chaochow in Mainland China three hundred years ago. Since then, Kaohsiung County has become an important cradle for Taiwanese shadow play. Nonetheless the growth of the society and the transformation of economic activities have resulted in the decline of such skills of "playing puppet silhouettes with borrowed light", as many other traditional folk arts. Preserving this heritage and passing it on to young generations are urged nowadays. This research sets out with a belief that educational programs launched by local museums will play the most effective role in traditional art preservation, An investigation upon the educational activities organized by the Digital Shadow Theater in the Kaohsiung County has been conducted. This research also takes the Hongxing Cabinet Shadow Play Troupe as the object of case study. Hongxing has given several performances on campus, it marks a beginning of the promotion of this art among young generations. Through close observation and interviews with the troupe members, this research attempts to find the possible results of combining their performance and school art education. This research concludes that, in spite of the sea changes of the Taiwanese society and the diversity it has developed over the centuries, traditional arts, contained in traditional values, are still treasured by people. In recent years, local governments and the central cultural authority, the Council for Cultural Affairs, have adopted a serious of policies to make up the loss of this art in the hope of preserving it for the future generations. Several suggestions are made in the conclusion of this research.
