故宮書畫錄(卷八),第四冊,頁165&* 陳淳(西元一四八三-一五四四年),江蘇長洲人。字道復,別號白陽山人。精於經學、詩文、書法、篆籀,又好繪事。早歲曾遊文徵明之門,中年以後畫風轉變,以寫意花卉及米家山水著稱。 本幅為「明人書畫扇卯」冊第七開,設色畫紅梅一枝,用沒骨法,筆意極稱活潑、妍雅,所惜顏料日久褪色,故覺稍淡,然無損於梅枝高潔之清氣也。 &* Ch’en Ch’un (style name Tao-fu; sobriquet Pai-yang shan-jen) was a native of Ch’ang-chou, Kiangsu. He was excellent at classical studies, poetry and writing, calligraphy, seal script, and painting. In his youth he traveled to Soochow to study under Wen Cheng-ming. In mid-life his painting style changed and he depicted flowers in the “sketching ideas” manner and landscapes in the styles of Mi Fu and Mi Yu-jen of the Sung dynasty (960-1279). In this painting of ink and colors is one branch of red plum blossoms depicted in the “boneless” method using no outlines. Correspondingly, the brushwork is extremely energetic and elegant. The sparingly-used colors have also faded over the years, thus making them feel somewhat light without having lost the lofty and pure air of the plum branches. &* 陳道復,江蘇長洲人,本名淳,字道復,後以字行,再改字復甫,別號白陽山人,生於憲宗成化十九(公元一四八三)年,死在世宗嘉靖二十三(公元一五四四)年。生性穎悟,天才秀發,曾遊學文徵明家,徵明僅謙稱是他的擧業老師,而不敢以書畫師自居。 他的畫專攻花卉,精研水墨法,筆簡意全,前人批評為「一花半葉,淡墨欹豪,疏斜歷亂之致,咄咄逼眞」,為後來水墨寫意派的開端。 &* 陳淳嘗言:「余自幼好寫生,往往為求設色之致……近年來老態日增……以草草水墨。」由此可知其少時所繪多見精緻設色花卉,晚年則近放逸粗率之水墨風貌。本幅設色畫紅梅一枝,用沒骨法,筆意極稱活潑、妍雅,顏料雖日久褪色,故覺稍淡,然無損於梅枝高潔之清氣。畫中自題:「玉蕊衝寒故廬開,天葩更解入林來;幽人自得清冷趣,手捲踈簾覆一杯。」。選自〈明人書畫扇卯〉冊第七開。(20100105)&* Chen Chun once wrote that since childhood he enjoyed sketching from life, searching for the ultimate in colors, but “in recent years I have become older…and my monochrome ink more cursive.” This suggests that Chen later turned more to ink using a direct, unbridled technique. This work with colors depicts a branch of pink plum blossoms. Using “boneless” washes for the blossoms, the brushwork is lively and beautifully refined. Though the colors have faded, it makes them appear quite light and elegant, taking nothing away from the lofty purity. Chen’s inscription says that “jade buds” of the plum rush forth in winter.
