石渠寶笈初編(御書房),下冊,頁743-744&*故宮書畫錄(卷六),第四冊,頁131&*故宮書畫圖錄,第二十四冊,頁58-61&*Yün Shou-p'ing, a native of Wu-chin in Kiangsu (modern Ch'ang-chou), combined the “boneless” non-linear wash method of Hsü Ch'ung-ssu with his own techniques to create a unique style. He became the master of Ch'ing dynasty flower painting. “Album of Imitating the Ancients” includes 11 leaves, three of which have been chosen for this exhibit. Yün, famous for his flower painting, used the “sketching from life” approach, in which he did not outline the forms but instead directly applied washes of ink and color. Particularly creative in coloring, his pigments are often watery to give a pure and translucent quality that has a down-to-earth yet ethereal feeling.
