簡介:化石脊椎長鼻目古菱齒象Palaeoloxodon sp. once roamed in large areas in the late Pleistocene. Fossils were discovered from North China to Taiwan . This type of elephant had a long and straight tusk-incisors and large size. It had high rising spine and its big forehead was double bulged to the tip of nostril forming a roof-like ridge. The enamel was rough and lined with bigger thickness. The molar plate was ground to the diamond shape. The last teeth in the back of upper and lower jaws had the thickness of more than 40c m. In the past two decades, fishermen captured some fossils of Palaeoloxodon sp. during fishing and that indicated once they roamed here. Although they extinct now, the valuable remains of fossil Palaeoloxodon sp. does provide us the very important clues and evidence for exploring the climate and geological changes in the distant ancient time.
