Chin T’ing-piao excelled at painting figures and flowers. He also was a noted portrait painter. When the Ch’ien-lung Emperor (r. 1736-1796) toured south China, Chin T’ing-piao presented him with an album of Lohans painted in black and white outline. The Emperor was so pleased that he summoned the artist to the palace as a court painter. The painting depicts a small house amid green trees. A man carrying a bamboo staff stands outside a windown of the house directing a boy in planting a peach tree.
