He first lived in Lu-ling but later moved to Liu-yang. He was a chin-shih in 1315 and in 1329 was appointed a Grand Secretary in the Han-lin Academy. Ou yang-huuan's semi-cursive and cursive calligraphy bears some resemblance to that of Su Tung-p'o. It is angular and free-flowing, quite different from the ordinary.
