(20110102)&* Yun Shouping originally had the name Ge and the style name Shouping, by which he later went. A native of Wujin in Jiangsu, he at first excelled at landscape painting but later felt he could not compete with the master Wang Hui (1632-1717), turning to flowers instead. With his tender and elegantly beautiful style, Yun became a master of flower painting in the Qing dynasty praised by many. This leaf comes from Yun Shouping’s “Album of Imitating Antiquity.” It depicts three narcissus plants using outlines in the “baimiao” ink-line manner. The places where the blades turn are rendered with gentle ink tones to create light and dark washes, while the centers of the blossoms were given a light touch of gamboges yellow wash. Reverse haloes of cyanine blue were used for the area around the blossoms as well. The coloring is quite light and the plants sway ever so slightly in a breeze, so it seems as if we can smell the delicate fragrance they bring. The narcissus blooms in the bitter cold of winter during the first and second months, emerging with its exquisite forms and unmistakable fragrance. They are a perfect harbinger for the Lunar New Year, adding a festive and auspicious atmosphere to that season.(20110102)&*1.〈清 惲壽平 水仙〉,收入譚怡令、劉芳如、林莉娜主編,《滿庭芳 歷代花卉名品特展》(臺北:國立故宮博物院,2010年十二月初版一刷),頁166。
