秘殿珠林續編(乾清宮),頁213&*故宮書畫錄(卷五),第三冊,頁503-504&*故宮書畫圖錄,第九冊,頁313-314&*這幅畫軸畫一位中年婦女手抱孩童,右手拿著一枝楊柳,左手捧著一個水碗,是一尊送子觀音。這尊觀音的世俗色彩濃厚,祂眼睛散放著悲愍的光芒,好像一位慈祥的母親。祂的臉形、髮絲、手腳都用淡墨細筆畫成,筆力穩健。可是衣紋則是用楷書抄錄《法華經.普門品》的經文來表現,全文從觀音菩薩左臂靠近孩童的頭部開始,字字連續,字跡端秀,一絲不苟,充分表現了作者虔誠的宗教情懷。&*This hanging scroll shows a lady holding a child. She holds a willow branch in her right hand and a water cup in her left. Representing Kuan-yin Bestowing Children, she has very down-to-earth features and a visage that emanates sympathy and compassion, like that of a kind and loving mother. Her face, hair, hands, and feet were all done with fine strokes of light ink using a strong yet steady brush. The drapery lines, however, are composed of tiny characters transcribed from "The Kuan-yin Chapter" of the Lotus Sûtra in regular script. The text starts from the left arm of Kuan-yin near the head of the child and continues character-for-character in fine elegant script, revealing the religious dedication of the artist.&*明宣宗(西元一四二六—一四三五年)雅好丹青,留心繪事,宮廷繪畫藝術發展蓬勃,佛經插圖水準亦高。本卷有別於一般變相之圖於經前經尾,而遠溯六朝傳統,以「左圖右史」方式圖解普門觀音事蹟,前後四十二幅插畫貫穿全經,人物形象優美生動,描金線條細膩靈活,將「救難無礙」與「化身無量」兩大特質的大悲觀音,表現的栩栩如生。 本幅選自明宣宗宣德七年(西元一四三二年)泥金寫本﹝妙法蓮華經觀世音菩薩普門品﹞。&*Emperor Hsüan-tsung (r.1426-1435) was fond of studying painting, and court painting flourished during his reign. The quality of illustrations of Buddhist sûtras was also very high. The entire content of this volume is the Samanta-mukha Chapter of the Lotus Sûtra which is dedicated to Kuan-yin. 42 illustrations appear throughout the text, and this type of format in which text and illustrations alternate originates from a tradition beginning in the Six dynasties. The painted figures are graceful and moving, and the precise gold lines enliven the illustrations, making the bodhisattva Kuan-yin, who saves beings from all calamities and appears in countless manifestations, a truly animate and lifelike deity.&*送子觀音手抱孩童,右手拿楊柳,左手捧水碗。《法華經.普門品》教導求子心切的婦女禮拜供養觀世音菩薩,便能生下福德智慧的男子,或是面貌端莊的女子。畫中觀音衣紋以楷書抄錄經文近兩千字,由觀音左臂靠近孩童頭部開始,字字連續秀整,反映虔誠宗教情懷。 觀音及孩童面目、手腳以淡墨細筆勾勒,由人物開面、體態、髮髻樣式及回首姿態,本幅觀音當為晚明作品。(20091016)&* This work shows “Guanyin Bestowing Children” with a child, holding a willow branch in her right hand and a water cup in her left. The “Universal Gate” chapter of the Lotus Sutra states that women who want a child should pray and make offerings to Guanyin so they can give birth to a wise son or beautiful girl. The drapery lines here consist of tiny characters from the sutra in regular script. The text starts from Guanyin’s left arm near the child’s head and continues character-for-character in elegant script, revealing the devotion of the artist. The face, hair, hands, and feet of the figures are all in fine outlines of light ink using strong yet steady brushwork.
