&*Ting Ting Yün-t’u’s birth and death dates remain unknown. Nevertheless, the composition, brushwork, and inkwork of his paintings all resemble the early style of Ting Yün-p’eng (1547 or 1584-after 1628). Thus, one wonders if they were not one in the same person. This painting is one leaf from "An Album of Lohans." It is a depiction of a lohan sitting and mending a cassock in the wilds. Two attendants have opened and are reading a scroll, from which they appear to have learned something. The outlines of the human figures are in the pai-miao (plain-line) manner and are like "running clouds" and "flowing water," producing variations on the designs of the figures. The brushwork is fine and delicate, and the layout and the coloring light and elegant. Due to the use of blue-green, the coloring of this painting has the atmosphere of Wu School works. This album has inscriptions dated to 1577 and 1578 and was thus done during this interval.
