His paintings of landscapes, flowers, birds and animals are all exceptional. Excellent at calligraphy as well as painting, Shen Chou is regarded as one of the Four Masters of the Ming dynasty. A chrysanthemum inclines to the side. Though painted with a rough and fast brush, this album leaf is filled with the life of the flower. This album belongs to Shen Chou’s late period, when his art, seemingly created without conscious attention, entered the divine realm.
