石渠寶笈續編(御書房),第四冊,頁1984-1987&*故宮書畫錄(卷六),第四冊,頁36&*故宮書畫圖錄,第二十二冊,頁184-189&*沈周(1427-1509),江蘇長洲(今吳縣)人。字啟南,號石田、白石翁。詩文書畫俱佳,善山水,兼工花果、翎毛,筆墨帶有拙趣。 本幅選自<寫生冊>,採沒骨法特寫折枝花卉,花瓣嫵媚多姿,繪葉拖曳飛白線條筆法流暢,具有書法筆意。通幅墨筆點染,濃淡多變化,頗能捕捉植物生機。沈周一生恪守儒道,事母極孝順,曾題詩「我母愛萱草,堂前千本花。贈人推此意,磨墨點春華。」此圖或不僅是花卉寫生,畫家以此寄托其生活情思,表達感念母親之情。(20110102)&* Shen Zhou (style name Qi’nan; sobriquets Shitian and Baishiweng) was a native of Changzhou in Jiangsu (modern Wuxian). He excelled at the arts of poetry, calligraphy, and painting, especially landscapes in the latter. Shen Zhou was also skilled at depicting flowers, fruits, and vegetables as well as animals, his use of brush and ink having an archaic simplicity to it. This leaf, from “Album of Sketching from Life,” was done in the “boneless” technique of washes to depict a close-up of this flowering plant in the “broken branch” manner. The day lily blossom is exceptionally dainty and posed. The blades extend gracefully with “flying white” streaks in the brushwork to suggest their flow, giving this work much of the brush manner of calligraphy. The brushwork throughout ranges dramatically from light to dark, faithfully capturing the essence of the subject. Shen Zhou scrupulously adhered to Confucian principles in his life and was quite filial to his mother. In fact, he once wrote a poem that stated, “My mother loved day lilies; Thousands of their blossoms were in front of the hall.
