- 石渠寶笈三編（延春閣），第四冊，頁1980&*故宮書畫錄（卷五），第三冊，頁416&*故宮書畫圖錄，第七冊，頁333-334&*謝時臣（西元一四八八年生，一五六七年尚存）吳人。字思忠，號樗仙。善山水，得沈周法，尤善於畫水，江潮湖海，種種皆妙。能作屏障大幅，有氣概而不無絲理之病。 本幅畫寒江歸舟，兩岸山峰叠起，水邊有幾戶人家。作者以墨渲染水天，表現冬日之寒冷蕭瑟，同時又在山陰之處層層皴染，襯托山石積雪之鬆軟。本畫筆墨蒼老渾厚，實為佳作。 &*Hsieh Shih-chen (style name Ssu-chung, sobriquet Shu-hsien) was a native of the Soochow area. A good landscape painter in the style of Shen Chou, he excelled at scenes of lakes, rivers and other large-scale compositions with vigor and coherence. In this painting, Hsieh has portrayed a lone boat returning from the mountains on a cold, wintry river. Series of peaks rise along both sides of the snowy river banks, where several dwellings are nestled. The artist has employed varying ink tones to describe water and sky, giving a chilling impression of winter’s crystalline desolation. This effect is a stark contrast to the powdery softness of accumulated snow on the irregular contours of the mountains, the silhouettes of which have been depicted by a “wrinkled” outline.
