He studied painting underr Shen Chou. Excellent in calligraphy, poetry and prrose work, and noted for his painting, Wen was one of the Four Masters of the Ming Dynasty. Along a stream rises a low, irregular bank. A tall peak juts up in the distance, with steep sloped and a flat top. Below it is a grove of pines, obscured by the mist. It is a representation of a landscape after rain. The brushwork is meticulous and beautiful; the rendering of the trees is particularly simple and week. This is one of the few paintings surviving from Wen Ch-ming’s youth, he gained maturity not until much later in life. This painting is dated the seveth day, eleventh month of 1507, at that time Wen was 38 years old.
