- 石渠寶笈續編（寧壽宮），第五冊，頁2874&*故宮書畫錄（卷五），第三冊，頁496&*故宮書畫圖錄，第八冊，頁363-364&* 袁尚統字叔明，江蘇吳縣人。生於隆慶四年（一五七○），至清順治十八年（一六六一）尚健在。工山水、人物。 元旦三翁圍爐而坐，孩童嬉戲庭前，燃放爆竹，尚有持杖者趕來相聚。人物用心描繪，亦着意於山水之表現，特用直筆長皴，樹石別有健朗之趣。畫成於辛丑（一六六一）年，時袁氏已九十二老翁。 &*Painting for the New Year Yüan Shang-t’ung (1570-1661-) Ming dynasty Yüan Shang-t’ung, tzu Shu-ming, a native of Suchou, Kiangsu, lived to be over 92. He was famous both for landscape and figure paintings. This painting depicts a scene of New Year’s Day. Three old gentlemen sit around a stove while children are playing in the yard and a relative arrives to join this family gathering. The figures are drawn in a very refined style and the long vertical texture strokes of the background mountain successfully express the beauty of the landscape. This painting was done in the year of 1661 when Yüan Shang-t’ung was already 92 years old.
