Descriptions: such as a 1.City: Tek-chham 2.Plateau: IN-khut 3. Plain: Kap-tsu-lan' village: E-phoa-po-o 4. Mountains: Geh-bai' the village. II. Difficulties; Indifference; Sabbath; Dollars. Confucianists say' 1. Conf. before Xt. 2. Xt. only a Holy Man. 3. Xt. was Killed -- 4. Pearly Emperor & only the Emperor can worship him.-- 5. Chrns (譯註: 原稿為Xhrns) only worship with the month. 6. Chrns have no Tablet. 7. .. .. .. .. .. .. Fengshui 8. Want of Propriety for Men & Women to meet together. 9. Ridicule Bap. and Lord's Sup. 10. They are Chinese and we Barba- 11. Can't see a God none 12. Converts can't graduate & We have one Book only the Bible. Nevertheless we got Leng chheng a B.A. and is Preacher in Tek-chham. Taoists (譯註:原稿為Tauists) make many objections. Still' We have Lim Sui as Preacher. Buddhists object. Still have converts. Mandarins make great difficulties. E. G. Lau Su Bi. I referred to him in Prison. III. Demands:-- a. Patience on the part of the Canadian Church. b. Another demand is the Canada should make Righteous laws and execute them righteously. At 4 p.m. I went with Kau-a and bro. John to the Y. M. C. A. and spoke on Ex. XIV:15' "Go forward." Then at 7.30 I spoke in St. Andrew's Church. (Rev. Mr. E. D. McLaren's) I Spoke on the following: I. Our Mission from 1872 to my visit to Can. 1880. II. From 1880 -1885= French. Opened Kap-tsu-lan' Lam-hong-o. Built Oxford Col. and Girls' school 40 Churches and all in good repair' white washed etc. III. From 1885 - 1893. French bombarded Kelung' 7 Churches destroyed-Sin-tiam' Lun-a-teng' Toa-liong-pong' Made My grade on site. 3 times nearly Killed by the French. a. Bombard Hobe' children under the floor. b. In "Fukien" S. S… c. Went through the French lines' met 8 soldiers. IV. Present state of the Mission 60 Churches' Col. subjects taught. Dictionary. Last trip in north Formosa bands of Music played going from Station to Station. Landed in Vancouver. Taken back to the Steamer told I would have to pay "Poll tax" of $50 each for my wife and children' Kept there from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. I met in Vancouver-Rev. E. D. McLaren' Geo. Maxwell' J. M. McMilleu an agent was impatient and insulting. I thanked a Mr. Kerr and Brown of the C. P. R. also the Ministers and all the Kind friends of Vancouver… -- Cold and Wet night. I saw in new Westminster Rev. E. B. Chestnut' -G. B. Greig' Thomas Sconler' -F. M. Hall Metho. - Glassford.
