內容摘要說明:Baro. 30-12. Left at 8 a.m. and went to Toa-tiu-tiaN' then by Train to Tho-a-hug. Kau-a was with me. We stayed in the chapel an hour' then went through the rain to Lam-kham. In the street where the chapel stands there are 200 people' and in the "Cheng Koe" (front street) there are about 500' including old and young… Fifty paces from the chapel there are four stones under a tree set up like a little house. Inside are incense sticks and two bamboo roots for getting an answer from the god who is supposed to be there' "Tho-ti-Kong'" god of the earth. Formerly nearly every eve. the 15th of every month crowds repaired thither to burn incense stick mock money - offer meat and vegetables to the god etc. It is now almost deserted! In the eve. a sort of map with 4 gods and goddesses were given me by a young man who said "Take these' I don't want them." The 4 are god of the Earth' god of the Kitchen' goddess of Mercy and goddess of the sea. A number of young men entered the chapel and at once began to read and sing hymns. Soon the place was filled. We had service' I spoke and Kau-a asked many questions. It was a dark' cold and wet night so that I did not expect many. There they were though and after worship continued singing till long in the night. The new chapel really looked well as it was plastered in and outside with lime. --
