Yesterday(譯註: 原稿為Yestreen) I received a new book "Sir Walter Scotts Journal" from Dr. Barbour' of Edinburgh' who was on his way to visit us; the name Barbour. Charming time we had at 11 George's square. Read Sir Walter's Journal through the night and now this day finished it. Wonderful genius! I don't know why exactly; but there is a streak of sadness about his hard life. He worked and worked and worked. Then like a child at last' "My dear' be a good man - be virtuous - be religious. Nothing else etc." Land of my fathers' Scotland forever.
