- 內容摘要說明：Clear till 9 a.m. then became cloudy and rain began to pour down…Rain! Rain!! Of late indeed for half a year…Went to the Col. and spoke about "In the beginning" etc. Creation in god's days …answered letters etc… Towards noon went to the Hos. under tremendous rain' whilst waiting for Dr. Rennie I observed a large spider near the door in about a quarter of an inch deep of water. It was sitting with its bag under her forelegs' just like a ship stranded. As she very slowly neared the door step' the male ran down the wall and quickly made a few threads stretch from the bottom board to the door which was open…This bridge was only 2 or 4 inches long. The young ones swarmed out the mother's legs (like sailors in the rigging of a ship) and over the new bridge they went up the door and away out of sight. Wonderful! Returning from the Hos. a man brought to the house a scaly ant eater (Mavis!) It is about 18 inches long' and all over covered with horny scales which it can erect at will. It has cunning little eyes and comical looking ears. Its gate is something like that of an animal with broken back' struggling along. But alive indeed it appeared when a nest of ants was given it the scales were opened so that hundreds went in under' when very cleverly they were pressed to death. After which the animal shook itself and with its long' slender tongue took up and ate its dinner!!! Dissected the ant eater…
