- 內容摘要說明：Early in the morning Mr. Aminoff' Jamiesons' Students and Preachers and a coolie or two were in the Col. Decorating it with evergreen etc. Mr. Aminoff made large letters thus 1872. 2719 1889 in 17 years. At 8.30 p.m. all met for debate in the Hall. I was chosen chairman. English Consul. Mr. Wilkinson sat on my right' Commis' Customs a French man on my left. Also a Russian' an American and our Commu. Doctor A Rennie' a Scotchman was on the platform. Ten or dozen foreigners were present. Subject of debate was Christianity Versus Confucianism Buddhism Tauist A Hoa led on Chris. Leng chheng a siu tsng the opposite. Twelve including the leader on each side five minutes each allowed and 15 Min. for A Hoa at the end. I gave the decision in favor of Christianity. Then we sang Hymn 22 and dispersed all greatly pleased… Seventeen years ago this day I landed in Tamsui' it was Saturday also. No converts etc. This eve. In a Col. With 24 debaters and inside the building able ready to defend Christianity against the there religious of Northern Formosa.
