Was invited to dine with Tan-hui General over many volunteers- Quite a rough and ready dark skinned Sharp' good natured sort of fellow. Liked him very much. At dark sent a escort of Soldiers to take me to the boat. People great surprised. Boat pretty comfortable. Sang all the way to Ta-ma-ien arrived at 10 P.M. Returned at Midnight no Sleep!
