He was a contemporary of the famous figure painter, Chou Wen-chü. It is said that the subject of this painting, Han Hsi-tsai, was famous for his all-night parties with music, dancing and a wide assortment of guests. The emperor was curious about such festive goings-on and ordered Ku Hung-chung to attend at night, peek at the activities, and later paint what he saw. This painting which includes only eight figures represents the last scene of The Night Revels of Han Hsi-tsai. It also has neither the signature nor seals of the artist. Though not considered the original painting by Ku Hung-chung, it is a close copy of considerable age by a master.
