He was erudite and talented, and was a particularly skilled landscape painter. His works also include some good bird and flower paintings. This painting depicts a wild bird perched on a peach blossom branch. The brushwork captures the antique, yet forceful, spirit of the tree, and at the same time is refined and polished. The composition is rather simple, and a great deal of space was left unfilled. However, many colophons have been written in this blank space, so that the painting now appears crowded.
