英文摘要:Folktales contain the practical characteristics of literature cultivation, folk culture, and social discipline, and the three construct the system of cultural values in the social discipline for common people. The researcher takes the Taiwanese stories of folk literature published by cultural affairs bureaus and culture centers as texts to explore the functions of social discipline in Taiwanese stories. Through the research of the folktales which actually exist and come down in Taiwan culture, the study discusses the system of cultural values in the functions of social discipline, and represents the wisdom in ancestors’ philosophy of life to help descendants understand the importance of cultural heritage and transmission of homeland. Further, it can popularize the thoughts of social discipline and represent the values of its function. The study includes seven chapters. The first chapter is the introduction that explains the study motivation, purpose, method, range, limitation, and term definition. The second chapter is folk literature and social discipline that summarizes the functions of literature cultivation and social discipline in folk literature, and the social consciousness and the functions of discipline in myths, legends, and folktales. The third chapter is the functions of family ethics in Taiwanese stories that introduces the stories about family ethics in “The Collection of Taiwanese stories”, including the relationship between husbands and wives, parents and children, sibs, and others to analyze the contents and the functions of discipline. The fourth chapter is the functions of discipline in the religious customs of Taiwanese stories that introduces the relative stories in “The Collection of Taiwanese Stories”, including religious belief in gods, ghosts, and spirits, religious ceremonial, and Feng-Shui to analyze the contents and the functions of discipline. The fifth chapter is the functions of discipline in the ways of the world in Taiwanese stories that introduces the relative stories in “The Collection of Taiwanese Stories”, including social stratification, social competition, and the conflicts and harmony of the society to analyze the contents and the functions of discipline. The sixth chapter is the functions of discipline in the social consciousness of Taiwanese stories that introduces the relative stories in “The Collection of Taiwanese Stories”, including infertility against filial piety, gain and loss, and the retribution for good or evil deeds to analyze the contents and the functions of discipline. Finally, the seventh chapter is the conclusion that summarizes the study results. The researcher concludes the characteristics and the functions of social discipline in Taiwanese stories to make people understand the importance of Taiwanese stories in Taiwan culture, to give some references for scholars and further studies, and to promote the discussion of Taiwanese stories.
