英文摘要:The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the determinism in the Taiwanese stories with some selected examples. The choice of the examples is based on the structures of their stories that display the fate of the depicted characters in the stories. The structure of such examples consists of two levels: one is the dominant force behind the fate, and the other is the attitude of the related characters towards their fate. The research method of this study is a qualitative one, which includes an analysis of the articles on the historical and cultural influences on these examples. Applying the conceptual analysis on determinism made by our ancestors in Taiwan and China, the present writer discusses the determinism of the immigrants from China to Taiwan as well as their ways of thinking and doing. Then the determinism revealed by these stories is generalized to acknowledge their contributions to the education of humanities. To sum up. our ancestor’s determinism is mainly affected by Confucianism, Daoism and Buddhism. A new type of Taiwanese culture and religion has been developed by mixing up different cultures at different times. Through the new type, this study thus identifies and acknowledges a proper position for Taiwanese stories from a cultural point of view.
