英文摘要:The Wenchang belief in Tainan city is a long-term religious activity. This thesis focuses on discussing the variation of the Wenchang belief in Tainan city from Qing Dynasty, Japanese Colonial Period to postwar. During Qing Dynasty, the Wenchang belief developed gradually in Tainan city because of the official’s impetus and local elite’s participation. At that time, Wenchang was not only worshipped by the folk but also included in the official’s ritual. In addition, the concept of treasuring words from the Sang-su of Wenchang was spread over there. In Japanese colonial period, the Wenchang belief in Tainan city was deeply impacted. Firstly, because of the transfer of political power, Wenchang was no longer one of the official’s rituals and the structure of Wenchang belief was forced to transform. Secondly, the Japanese official occupied lots of Wenchang temples, and therefore interfered in the Wenchang worship. Fortunately, the support from the local elite and some organizations such as Yang-wen-hui, Yi-cheng-she and Sheng-ming-hui avoided the Wenchang belief disappearing. After World War II, the Wenchang belief developed steady in Tainan. Many temples began worshipping Wenchang in recent years. Most of these temples are located in the West Central District. Only a few are in the suburban. The ceremonies of worshipping Wenchang are similar to other deities. But the “Wenchang worship activity” is the unique rites held for the examinee. Furthermore, holding the kind of activity has become a current trend.
