英文摘要:The purpose of the research is to understand the recreational participation with the Paiwan Tribe in Pingtung and Taitung and to discuss the inference factors. This research only applies to this tribe in these two areas. This research is mainly based on survey about aboriginal humanity and environment for the Paiwan Tribe in Pingtung and Taitung and interviews with members of the tribe. Quantitative and qualitative factors have both been taken into consideration in the analysis. The study focuses on the statistical model of tribal behavior. A. The historical and cultural background and current situation of the recreational participation of the Paiwan Tribe: 1. The Paiwan Tribe is one of aboriginal tribes in Taiwan. The population is about six hundred thousand. Its special cultural background such as the inheritance system favoring eldest offspring, the partially matriarchal character of the society, and gender equality, and the societal hierarchy. 2. Before 1600 and the start of encroachment from outsiders, the Paiwan lifestyle was based on agriculture, reclaiming wasteland after burning the wood, hunting and fishing. 3. After 1600 as greater numbers of outsiders began to occupy the land, the Paiwan tribe began to be adopt the customs from Holland, Ming and Ching dynasty Chinese, Japanese and more modern Chinese influences. As a result, the tribal society changed and traditional hierarchy decayed. 4. After 1970, the life of the Paiwan Tribe has improved because most of the young people studied hard to be government officers, police, soldiers, teachers, and doctors instead of involving themselves in hunting and farming. Abandoning these traditional had a corresponding influence on lifestyle habits. The newer generation also had more time for and interest in leisure activities. 5. Though the lifestyle changed as influenced by other cultures, the recreational style of Paiwan Tribe has still maintained a great deal of its traditional character. In terms of attitudes toward recreational pursuits, level of satisfaction, amount of time spent, education, environment, gender, age, social status, income, and place of residence. 6. Based on a survey of the literature, collecting related information, and interviewing tribal members regarding their lifestyle and thinking, researchers designed appropriate research questionnaires for the Paiwan Tribe. One was for adults from the ages of 31 to 70 years, and a second was for teenagers and young adult from 12 to 30 years of age. Data was collected in equal proportions from male and female members among the 12 aboriginal districts in Pingtung and Taitung (San Di Men, Ma Chia, Tai Wu, Lai Yi, Tsuen Ju, Shih Ze, Mu Done, Mun Chou, Da Jen, Da Wu, Ching Feng, and Tai Ma Li). B. Conclusions 1. The female adult group (31-70 years old) scored higher than male group. This indicates that female members of the Paiwan Tribe have more recreational knowledge and more time to participate. 2. Among young people group (12-30 years old), female scored higher than males as well. 3. In terms of age, the young people’s group (12-30 years old) scored higher than adult group (31-79 years old). This appears to be due to the fact that younger people are better-educated and have a smaller work load than older members of the group. Furthermore, the improvement of society and encouragement from the government has helped young people to achieve a greater participation in recreational activities. 4. In terms of social and economic status, people who hold lower positions marked higher scores than people holding higher positions in society. In other words, those holding lower positions in society participate in recreational activities more. This result deserves special attention since it is contrary to previous reports from the literature. In the literature, people who hold higher positions marked higher scores than people holding lower positions in society. However, Paiwan tribe has showed different result in the research. 5. In terms of income, people who have lower incomes marked higher scores than higher income people. This result is also different from the literature. We will discuss more in the article. 6. In terms of location, both adult and young people groups in Pingtung marked higher scores than in Taitung. This is probably due to the fact that Pingtung is more advanced and offers a greater commercial infrastructure. The final purpose of the researcher is to become aware of the recreational style of the aboriginal Paiwan tribe, in order to improve the quality of recreation and educate tribal members in the concept of recreation. Furthermore, it can help to develop the recreational infrastructure and improve the economy in Pingtung and Taitung. Therefore, all the tribes in Taiwan can exist prosperously together and develop forever.
