- 中文摘要:臺灣民間的信仰，就內外在的表現形式上來看，都源於閩粵地區。中國人對於外來的宗教有著包容的態度，好比四海一家親的感覺。讀過歷史，我們都知道有許多外來的宗教傳入，如基督教、回教等，雖然在台灣沒有到茁壯的程度，但也不被排斥，而最為大眾尊崇信奉且將其發揚光大的便是佛教，在台灣信仰佛教的人口可說非常廣泛。至於道教，起源於中國，是中國人自己的宗教，經過二千年外來宗教文化的融合，其教義也漸漸地接近儒佛，所以一般民間就將儒、釋、道三者視為相通的信仰，所以臺灣民間的信仰背景多半是融入儒、釋、道三教的精神而成。 在台灣民間當中崇奉的神祇很多，例如：來自漳州的開漳聖王（Khai-chong-seng-ong），又如來自於客家人的三山國王（San-san-kok-ong）等，在這些多達上百種的神祇之中，最不受地域和種族的限制，也不論外省、客家、閩南、或是原住民，更無論儒、釋、道三家，唯一均能有其共同信仰者，便是土地公（Tho-ti-kong）。本論文的研究即在探討土地公為何是台灣民間信仰最久、最廣泛的神祇，為何在田頭田尾都能看到祂？而土地公信仰在民間信仰（folk religion）中佔有何等重要的地位?祂的傳說、雕造藝術為何？這其中是否有衍生出許多的風俗民情呢？就今天台灣民間土地公信仰盛行的現況來看，這是值得我們去深思及探討的問題。
- 英文摘要:In view of both internal and external performance, the folk religion of Taiwanese are all sourcing from areas of Fukien and Canton. For the extrinsic religions, Chinese usually have a very cosmopolitan thinking and can accept or tolerate all of them. By the history, we knew some foreign religions were introduced into Taiwan such as Christianity, Islam, -- etc. Although they did not strongly grow up and were not popularly believed, but they were not repelled either. The most widely and heartily believed religion is the Buddhism, and it developed and glorified endlessly. In Taiwan most of the people believe Buddhism, it is the most popular religion. As for the Taoism, it is originated in China. The Taoism is their own religion for Chinese. After two years’ blend with the foreign religions and cultures, its religious principles is getting closer and closer to the Confucianism and Buddhism. So, in general folk society, the Confucianism; the Buddhism and the Taoism are accepted as the same religions. It is the same in Taiwan, most backgrounds of the folk religions are blended with Confucianism; Buddhism and Taoism too. There are many Gods adored and believed in the Taiwanese folk society, such as Khai-chong-seng-ong from Changchou and San-san-kok-ong from Hakka, -- etc. Among those hundreds of Gods, the Tho-ti-kong is the only one that has its common and religious believers, no matter who is the Chinese or the Hakka or the Southern Fukienese or the Natives, and no matter which is Confucianism or Buddhism or Taoism. The religion to Tho-ti-kong is the least restricted by the regions and races. The research of this article is to discuss and discover why the Tho-ti-kong is the longest and the most popular folk religion in Taiwan? Why it can be seen anywhere in the field ? It is also to discuss what important position is for the Tho-ti-kong in folk religion? What is its legend and arts of statue? Are there some manners and traditions generated ? Nowadays, the folk religion to the Tho-ti-kong is such wide and popular in Taiwan. In view of this situation, it is really worth for us to consider and discuss it deeply.
