英文摘要:This thesis focuses on the traditional place names of Neipu township in Pingtung county. We can find cultural significances of place names from their origins and characteristics. Place names are living fossils of local history. We can not only understand past culture but reappear the natural and human landscapes. All place names have their origins, which are related to people, events and places at that time. They are also involved with local geography and history. The historical development of place names provide very important clues for research. But place names change because of different settlement functions, natural disasters, man-made disasters and political transfer. Tracing the source of place names nowadays is really an important process for understanding the historical trajectory. This thesis is divided into five chapters: Chapter 1,"Introduction". This chapter mainly explains the motivation, purpose,scope, the expected results and literature review. Chapter 2,"An overview of Neipu". This chapter introduces the natural and human environment characteristics in Neipu, finds out the place names of Neipu in literatures, analyzes Neipu’s settlements during the Japanese occupation, and finally explains the present status of administrative villages. Chapter 3,"The traditional place names category analysis." We interpret the names of settlements of Neipu, analysis the evolutions of various place names, finally discuss the place names from natural and cultural significance origins. Chapter 4,"The characteristics of traditional place names." We use the language point of view to inquire word formations of place names composition, analyze the dialect features of Taiwanese Sounthern Fujienese and Hakkas in place names, explain cultural significances of place names and show the distributions between place names and ethnic groups. Chapter 5,"Conclusions and recommendations." We sum up the analysis, illustrate the conclusions and contributions of this thesis, and then make some recommendations for future researchers as a reference.
