英文摘要:Despite the fact that Tudi Gong (Earth God) is not ranked high in the spiritual system , it is the guardian of wealth, farmland and village in addition to its amicable nature. Other than presenting the foresaid common perception, Puli’s Tudi Gong further reveals its in-depth local phoenix hall influence from locals’ various kinds of description about “our Tudi Gong”. Hence, by reviewing the features of Tudi Gong temples, locations of the temples, and the ritual activities well known by locals, the way to shape and pass down folk religion will be better understood. The activities of giveaways of phoenix halls’ religious books and temples’ sutra reciting provide people with daily life practice and cultivation. They strengthen function differentiation between the Tudi Gong enshrined in the small temple and the one worshiped in the grand phoenix hall temple. They also convey the spirit of “god cultivated from beneficence” promoted by phoenix halls. A temple’s name and couplet are an indispensable part of a Tudi Gong temple. They highlight local uniqueness by detailing temple name, place name and humanly matters and focus on Tudi Gong’s duty on safeguarding villagers, objects and wealth. On the other hand, local sacrificial rituals and activities being played out from reconstruction of a temple to Tudi Gong even further prompt interactions of the locals being involved in different levels of Tudi Gong temples and larger scale of temples, which leads to fulfillment of Puli’s local culture and heritage.
