英文摘要:This paper aims at discussing the change of worship areas and its meaning in the folk religion. It takes the folk religion of Hakka in Hualien as an example, exploring the transformation of temples and gods, as well as the associated meanings behind the changes, in the three different stages. It later utilizes the case of Wu-ku Temple (五穀宮) to study its development from the household to the community worship, as well as its recent declining influence. The paper argues that the local interpretations of Wu-ku god, changing from the earlier agricultural orientation to today's Hakka ethnic identity, reflect the varying social environments.
