林宗毅先生林誠道先生父子捐贈書畫圖錄,頁38、173&*謝穎蘇(一八一一-一八六四),字琯樵,北關(今福建詔安)人。約於咸豐七年至十年(一八五七-一八六○ )間旅居台灣,曾應聘於板橋林本源家。同治三年(一八六四)進剿太平軍,殉難於萬松關。所作「水墨牡丹」,於濃淡處極具神韻,筆調清雅。此畫作於咸豐戊午(一八五八),於來台期間所畫。謝氏喜於畫上題以詩文,對台灣繪畫極有影響。 本幅為林宗毅先生捐贈。 &* Hsieh Ying-su (style name Kuan-ch’iao) was a native of Pei-kuan (modern Chao-an, Fukien). From about the years 1857 to 1860, he was in Taiwan and employed at Lin Pen-yüan’s home in Banciao. Later, in 1864, he was involved in resisting the T’ai-p’ing Rebels and died for his country at Wan-sung Pass. The subject “peonies in monochrome ink” involves using subtle shades of only ink to create a harmonious and elegant atmosphere. This painting was done in 1858 during Hsieh Ying-su’s stay in Taiwan. Hsieh often inscribed poetry on his paintings, and he had a major influence on the development of painting in Taiwan. This work was donated to the National Palace Museum by Mr. Lin Tsung-i. &*謝穎蘇(西元一八一一—一八六四年),字琯樵,北關(今福建詔安)人。約於咸豐七年至十年間(一八五七—一八六○)旅居台灣,曾應聘於板橋林本源家,對台灣繪畫極有影響。同治三年(一八六四)進剿太平軍,殉難於萬松關。 本幅水墨畫牡丹,筆調清雅,濃淡不同的墨彩極具神韻。作於咸豐戊午(一八五八),為謝氏在台期間所畫。此幀為林宗毅先生捐贈。 &* Xie Yingsu, style name Guanqiao, was a native of Beiguan (modern Zhao’an, Fujian). From about the years 1857 to 1860, he was in Taiwan and employed at the home of Lin Benyuan in Banciao, having a major impact on painting in Taiwan. In 1864 he took part in resisting the Taiping rebels and died for his country at the Wansong Pass. In this painting of peonies in monochrome ink, donated to the National Palace Museum by Mr. Lin Zongyi, the brushwork is pure and elegant, the different shades of ink suggesting colors in a spirited manner. This work was done in 1858, when Xie was still in Taiwan.
