&*A Hundred Swallows Yang Chin (1644-1728) Ch’ing dynasty Yang Chin was a native of Ch’ang-shu, Kiangsu. He learned painting from Wang Hui, and his landscapes possess qualities of purity and elegance. Yang Chin’s landscape with figures are also strong. It is said that the figures, carts, palanquins, camels, horses, oxen and sheep seen in Wang Hui’s paintings are actually the products of Yang Chin’s brush. This painting portrays a flock of swallows, and, like Yang Chin’s landscapes, is characterized by qualities of purity and elegance. Such a large scroll, painted when Yang Chin was eighty-one, allows us to imagine the impressive strength and character of the painter. This painting was presented to the museum by Huang Chün-pi.
