They are adaptive to a wide variety of environment and are widely spread on the island. Their populations are still abundant. They have been classified as preserved animals and can not be captured because they are species endemic to Taiwan. In lower mountain ranges where their habitats and human developments overlap, they sometimes do damage to crops and cause farmers troubles. Sometimes they are captured to be pets. Habitat: Formosan macaque are endemic to Taiwan and widely spread in mountain areas at altitudes around 100-3,000m.They can adapt to environment modified by human, but they mainly inhabit thick natural forests and prefer rocks where they can overlook the landscape or places near water sources. They feed on fruit and tender leaves.台灣獼猴是本島最為人熟知的哺乳類動物, 適應性佳, 全島廣泛分布, 族群數量尚豐, 因是台灣特有種而被列入保育類動物禁止捕獵, 在棲地與人類聚落重疊的淺山地帶, 有危害作物的情況發生,造成農民的困擾,也有被捕捉當作寵物飼養的情形. 棲地分布:為台灣特有種。過去的記錄曾分布到海邊,現今則廣泛分布於全島海拔100公尺至3000公尺山區,雖然可以適應人為改變過的環境,但其棲地仍以濃密之天然林為主,也喜出現於倨高視野良好的岩石或是水源地的附近。"
