She was the mother of Ch'ien jCh'en-ch'un, who later served as high official under the Ch'ien-lung emperor (r. 1736-1795). Due to her son's rank, she was awarded the title "Great Virtue." She was also a talented painter of landscapes, figures, birds-and-flowers, and insects-and-grasses in her own right. Depicting the corner of a lotus pond, lotuses and reeds rise up as a bird rests on a lotus pod below. Ch'en Shu mentioned that she had painted in the style of the Ming artist Ch'en Ch'un. Although her handling of ink lacks the vigor of Ch'en Ch'un's brushwork, her work here is nevertheless imbued with fluency and a sense of consummate grace.
