His style name was Shih-k’uei. He was a portraitist, but was also skilled at figures, flowers, and landscapes. In 1762 he was appointed a court painter. In this work two fishermen are winding in a fishing-line on the banks of a river. The thick clumps of rushes seem to sway in the wind. The artist has used a frayed brush to depict the folds of the men’s clothing.
