- 故宮書畫錄（卷五），第三冊，頁8&*故宮書畫圖錄，第一冊，頁25-26&*大松下五位士人圍長案雅聚，童子張琴，仕女抱阮或備茶，人物器用俱以中鋒細筆鉤勒，頓起頓收，轉折挺勁，如畫樹的枝椏。畫上無作者款印，舊傳周昉作。按周昉（活動於八世紀末）是陜西長安人，唐代著名人物畫家，畫史稱其人物善於刻畫個別的性格，並能掌握特定環境下的情態。本幅構圖似是取自其他作品拼湊而成，如士人圍坐的構圖便是摹仿傳世十八學士的一段。&*This painting depicts an elegant gathering of five scholars around a long table listening to a recital. A servant boy holds a lute and ladies hold a juan instrument and tea utensils. The figures and objects have been outlined with great delicacy using centered brushstrokes. In the drapery, the touching and lifting of the brush, as well as its twisting and turning, are similar to the brushwork used in rendering tree branches. This work bears no signature or seal of the artist, but has been traditionally attributed to Chou Fang, a native of Ch'ang-an (Shensi) who was a renowned figure painter of the T'ang dynasty. In traditional painting texts, his figure paintings are described as being good at capturing the individual personalities of the figures as well as the mood of the situation. The composition of this work appears to have been selected from parts of other works. The arrangement of scholars sitting around a table, for example, imitates a section from versions of "The Eighteen Scholars."
