Wang Yüan-ch’i’s simple yet beautiful use of the brush surpasses the conventional to become truly creative. The composition is extremely complex. Aside from the sky and water, the void of clouds on the right side of the scroll is similar to the use of positive and negative space in seal script. Wang Yüan-ch’i painted the landscape when he was 69-years-old.
