This is the 7th leaf from the album Collected Gems of Famous Paintings. Depicted are mynah birds perched in an old willow tree. Blossoming plum branches appear behind snow-laden bamboo with willow trees and rocks in the foreground. Shoreline reeds are laden with snow and droop under the weight. Two ducks swim over from the right. With the landscape weighted to the left, the waterfowl are isolated at the left, thus reflecting contrasts of solid/void and stillness/movement. This work bears no seal or signature of the artist, but it was attributed by the Ch'ing collector Liang Ch'ing-piao (1620-1691) to Huang Ch'üan. The style, however, suggests more of the manner of Southern Sung court painting.
