He later became a monk and took the name Tsu-hsüan and sobriquets T’ien-ch’ih-fa-seng and Ching-his-chu-shih. He excelled at painting landscapes and figures, with the style of the former following that of shen Chou (1427-1509). Sung’s style was hoary, archaic, and full of energy. In this painting are a fishing boat on remote waters and obscure mountains in the distance. A light mist wafts through the mountains as the bright moon hangs high above the water, fields, and buildings below. Outside of a building in the glade are five people gathered together drinking, chatting, and listening to the frogs. This work is a description of a countryside scene on a cool summer evening.
