He was a landscape painter who particularly excelled in the depiction of water, whether river, lake, or sea. His large scale works are full of feeling, yet nevertheless well-controlled. His landscape style is derived from Shen Chou. In this painting, the figures, stones, bamboo, and plantain trees all resemble Shen Chou’s style very closely, but the dotting technique of the moss is overdone, and the brushwork somewhat weak.
