石渠寶笈三編(御書房),第七冊,頁3120&*故宮書畫錄(卷五),第三冊,頁437&*故宮書畫圖錄,第九冊,頁147-148 &* 趙左(活動於西元十七世紀前期),作品見於萬曆癸卯(一六0三年)至崇禎己巳(一六二九年)間。華亭人,字文度。善畫山水,受業於宋旭。惜墨構思,不輕落筆。雲山能以己意出之,有似米非米之妙。 雨後雲山,滿紙溟濛之色。一溪新漲,如聞波湧之聲。用筆樸穆,寓意荒寒,往往佳作不以工穩勝也。 &* Chao Tso, whose style name was Wen-tu, was a native of Hua-t’ing, Kiangsu. He excelled at painting landscapes, an art he learned from the Ming dynasty artist, Sung Hsü (1525-after 1605). The dates of Chao Tso’s birth and death are uncertain, but his works date between the twenty-year period (1603-1629,). His paintings of rainy scenes done in the style of Mi Fei (1051-1107), possess a wonderful quality. The tide has just come in, and it seems that one almost can hear the sound of waves lapping against the shore.
