故宮書畫錄(卷八),第四冊,頁58&*故宮書畫圖錄,第二冊,頁131-132&*使者五騎,一人持旌前導。二人立馬松下,似有所待。又二者走馬於溪橋之上。畫三國演義中「三顧茅廬」故事。本幅人馬山水,皆有浙派習氣,疑出明畫院一派。畫上雖有劉松年款,當為後添。按劉松年(約西元1190-1230年前後)浙江錢塘人,居清波門,又稱暗門劉。南宋孝宗淳熙年間畫院學生,紹熙年間待詔。山水、人物師法張敦禮,神氣精妙,名過其師。&*This work narrates what appears to be a scene in which five envoys on horseback, judging from their courtly manner, have been sent by the emperor to the mountain retreat of a scholar and entreat him to come out of seclusion and serve at court. One appears along the path by the stream, two are in the lower right corner looking up at the hermit, and the other two approach on the bridge. All of the motifs have been rendered in the style associated with the Che School of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), suggesting that this was done at the Ming court. The Liu Sung-nien signature is thus a later addition.
